Ferilize for the Fall

Fall is a great time to get some fertilizer on your lawn especially with all teh rain we have had lately. Just don't over do it. Even if you just use a basic 10-10-10 fertilizer it will really improve your lawn for next spring. Also rye grass is great for the cooler season. It is cheap & is great for fescue lawns that get thin in the winter. It will will die in teh heat of summer but by then it has served its purpose and the fescue will be thriving.

Tell your local officials about water concerns

If you want to use your sprinkler system this summer you better round up your neighbors and get to every local government meeting you can attend. If you do not, the draconian water restrictions will go on way too long. We have seen a good deal of rain this winter and local reservoirs are doing fine now. But government moves slower than a snail with rock salt poured on it so they will be in no hurry to change things back to normal. Does this mean we do not care about our water supply? Of course not, we should conserve as much as possible. This means running sprinkler systems in the late evening or very early morning instead of running them in the heat of the day. And checking to find out how much you should be watering per week. There is no need to water every day. Three to four time a week is fine and if things get really dry again just cut back more. But to not use these sprinkler systems that cost thousands of dollars is ridiculous.
If you think your local government knows what is best just consider this story of government waste from my area. Link. Jefferson officials approved tax payer money to be spent on a new radio station as part of a recreation center. The station had a new technology but produced a weak signal and could hardly be picked up by anyone and the internet stream it ran was rarely listened to according to the stations own data. This information from the story says it all, " From July through December, Radio Jefferson only generated $9,190 in income, but had expenses of $151,400. In December, the station had no income and expenses of $6,050". These are the type of people in charge of your water.

Pruning in the fall

Fall is a great time to prune your trees and trim hedges. Don't forget to cut back your monkey grass as well. Also get those low hanging limbs out of your way that hit your head when you mow the grass. Low limbs also hurt the lawn by shading it too much. Walter Reeves has a great site for scheduling different lawn work. any questions just email me at tinman23@alltel.net. We run a lawn service in the Northeast Georgia area. Georgialawncare.com

Choosing a Lawn Service Provider

Most people look at price first when buying things, as well they should. However customer service is very important especially when buying a service. You get what you pay for is an old saying that people still say because it is one of the truest statements ever. Why save $5 a month on a questionable company when you will eventually have to waste time calling and complaining and eventually looking for the replacement company? Ask around your neighborhood and see who they are happy with. It is easy to find a lawn service provider but it is hard to find one that does quality work since most don't last long. I'd rather have a company I can hire and forget about. If you don't notice anything about the service, chances are they are doing their job! If you are noticing thingsa , they are usually not positive things.

Introduction

This is my first post on this blog. The point is to help homeowners with their lawn and property. I run a small lawn service business and believe I can be of help to others. In the process I hope to gain traffic to my website ( georgialawncare.com) and hopefully new customers. Any questions please post a comment and / send an email to tinman23@alltel.net. Makes sure to subscribe to the blog via rss feed or your news reader or blog reader.
I'll start with a pet peeve of mine. When putting out plants or flowers in your yard, you need to have a plan. Don't just dig a hole and put the plant in the first place you like. You should think about how it will look as it grows, will it be bigger than is pleasing, will it block out other plants behind it? Also remember to use potting soil when planting it. And put some mulch or pinestraw around it. Also, if it is close to another bed make the mulch touch the mulch in the other bed so you do not leave a strip of grass that you can not fit your mower in between. If you set your lanscape up correctly you will have to weed eat less thus saving time for fun things!
